What we do
Rationarium provides dedicated WeBWorK hosting to colleges and universities. We handle the servers, security, backups, and software updates so that math departments can use WeBWorK without needing their own IT infrastructure.
We’ve been doing this since 2021, and we serve institutions ranging from small colleges to large university systems.
Why we exist
WeBWorK is free, open-source software — but running it isn’t free. It requires a server, a system administrator, and ongoing maintenance. Most math departments don’t have those resources, so they either don’t use WeBWorK at all or they rely on overworked IT staff who treat it as a side project.
We started Rationarium because we believed WeBWorK deserved professional infrastructure. We’re both educators who spent years using WeBWorK in our own classrooms, contributing to its codebase, and serving on the executive board of The WeBWorK Project. We know what instructors need because we’ve been instructors.
Community commitment
Rationarium donates 10% of revenue to The WeBWorK Project (TWP), the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that stewards the WeBWorK software. TWP uses these contributions to fund code camps, community infrastructure, and ongoing development.
We don’t just use open source — we invest in it.
